Possible Rip-off of Zombies "Time of the Season"

Possible Rip-off of Zombies "Time of the Season"

Postby mirageguitar on Tue Mar 03, 2009 11:42 pm

While watching the television show "Last Call" on March 2, 2009, in the US, I was surprised to hear a new artist presented by Carson Daly doing a song with an obvious rip-off of the Zombies song "Time of the Season" as the music behind her words. Here is a link to the recording, check it out for yourself:

Maybe she was granted permission to use the music. If so, I'm in error and apologize, but if not, this appears to be copyright infringement and might need some investigation.

Zombie Song Rip-Off - I heard it today!

Postby almcg2 on Mon Mar 16, 2009 2:59 am

This song is being touted as a new hit by many radio stations. Does anyone know how to get this info to Rod? I'm a big fan of the Zombies and this irritated the hell out of me about 10 minutes ago. Here is the info:

Give it to Me Right by Melanie Fiona

The base line is the same, they use an organ set to the same sound as in the Time of the Season. They basic instrumental melody is almost exactly the same and in some places they even use little organ riffs found almost exactly the same in the Zombies song. THIS IS NOT RIGHT!!!!! Little work had to be done to prep this song for release. All they really needed was the singer, lyrics and then they added some bluesy guitar riffs (very few) and its done. The opening bars are exactly the same as The Time of The Season, so much so that my wife yelled at me to listen because we hadn't heard it in years and we were sure that's what was being played. I would say some big time royalties need to be paid to the original song writer of the remaining Zombies.

Cheers,

More info on the Song Rip-Off

Postby almcg2 on Mon Mar 16, 2009 3:24 am

Here's more info on the group who ripped off the Zombies song:
Interesting, she gives credit for to other old timers for inspiration, says she writes all her own music, and mentions nothing of the Zombies. This is interesting because it's the most obvious melody theft I've ever heard. If you played both songs together you probably couldn't tell them apart very well, at least the entire opening bars.

The Bridge releases on Steve Rifkind’s SRC/ Motown Universal Records in Spring 2009.

The offending song is on this album.

Here's the URL to her myspace page with all the info anyone would need to figure out who to contact.

Zombie rip off

Postby almcg2 on Wed Apr 01, 2009 5:39 am

Great.. please do speak to whoever is the main spokesmen left for the Zombies. They were a fantastic and original group. It's just damn wrong to let someone get away with this sort theft. At least they should be compensated for the use of so much of their work.
